05:11 pm - Rainsparkle Derpgoat
In recognition of the local June weather I shall share Rainsparkle Derpgoat! I already shared it on fb, but I kind of like the derpiness so I thought I'd also post it to somewhere that has a logical and linear progression of everything I post instead of whatever the host provider thinks other people should see. Again, why are we all using that junk site? :-/

To copy & paste what I said over there:

---

Rainsparkle Derpgoat is the manifestation of rain and mild stupidity. Hobbies include making it rain, ruining holidays, and posting stupid memes on facebook.

Derpgoat also secretly loves MLP, but pretends not to due to embarrassment and the desire to keep trolling the fandom for no good reason. Shame on you, Derpgoat!

---

The animation is pretty bad, but I just wanted something basic to show it looked in my brain. Maybe one day I'll re-do this and add all the sparkles. I'm sure there's a more efficient ways than painting them all by hand. It probably involves photoshop and noise distortion, but I hardly ever use photoshop these days and am too lazy to fire it up just for that.

I also have no idea why that foreleg is so weirdly muscular and I think I started off drawing floppy ears and changed my mind half way through, so now it kind of looks like a deer-goat-lamb thing. I guess that's the derp and why using references is so important. Let this be some sort of half-arsed lesson!

05:27 pm - Sketchy
Since the 2 main people who still (cross)post to LJ on my friends page are currently posting art, I thought I'd share some too. Just 'cause.

05:23 am - Postmodern Jukebox
I really like what Postmodern Jukebox are doing. They take modern(ish) songs and cover them in a variety of older music styles from the 1920s through 1960s, which can produce some quite strikingly different results (for example they have a cover of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" done in a cabaret/ lounge style that makes it sound approximately 1000 times more classy than the original). Sometimes they don't quite get it right for the singer they're featuring and it leads to some songs that sound a bit weird or rough (and there's some songs that I just don't like no matter what is done to them), but on the whole I've found they have more hits than misses.

I am rather annoyed that they only sell their mp3s via iTunes though, because I don't use iTunes and I want to give them money. Still, they put most/ all of their songs on YouTube and that's made for a night of entertaining music, especially when it's a song I know and enjoy the original of.

They also seem to go on tour worldwide and maybe one day I'll even get to see them live. They'll be in the UK next year and I can still get general admission tickets for some locations I have a chance of getting to, but given how precarious my health is on any given day I don't feel comfortable planning that far ahead right now. That doesn't mean I can't notify others who may be interested in having a night out and seeing them perform though. :)

12:28 am - Sentimentality, I has it
I was going to have an early night tonight, but then I sat and watched the anime "Wolf Children" (Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki). Now I am full of all the feels. My younger self would be appalled at how much I cry at sad parts of movies these days and I had to keep pausing it to shout/ explain parts of it to my housemate (who couldn't see or hear it properly since I sat in the corner with my headphones on) when it all got a bit much. Thankfully the ending wasn't nearly as sad as I thought it was going to be (as long as you don't think of the larger, further reaching aspects that were not the point of the story), because I don't think I could have gone to bed without a unicorn chaser otherwise.

It seems to have made me come over all introspective and slightly melancholy no matter what sort of tone the film itself was trying to set. Late night anime viewing always used to cause that with me though. It feels like ages since I sat and properly watched some serious anime. I think tomorrow I'll have to see what else has come out in the last few years as I'm so out of touch with new and popular releases these days. I can't even remember where I used to discover new stuff to watch because it's been so long!

Who needs sleep when I can watch entire Grand Designs episodes on YouTube? I'm sure my housemates wont mind putting away the food delivery tomorrow by themselves...

I'm rather glad I managed to do most of my laundry on Saturday, because my part of England appears to be ushering in the meteorological summer with wind and rain. I do wish I hadn't been lazy and done my sheets as well though. Oh well, it can't keep raining forever I guess.

Rambling boring stuff mostly about Minecraft in hereCollapse )

Why did I have to be born with an "artists soul"? It's nothing but a self-obsessed pain in the arse. I think a plumber or an electricians soul would have been far more useful and easier to pay the bills with.

11:44 pm - Eurovision 2015
So tonight was Eurovision and for a change my housemates weren't spending the evening at someone elses party, so we all sat around the TV eating chinese takeaway and scoring/ heckling the entries. We're pretty sure the "theme" of this year was drugs, what with Austria looking completely stoned (we think the "piano fire" was when he accidentally flicked his spliff in to it), Germany with it's penis/ mushroom "smoke" rorschach test in the background, and Latvia dropping acid (according to Faith). Added to this was the UK not having a terribly cringe worthy entry for once and Europe experiencing a mass hallucination that Australia entered the contest this year, both of which must be down to drugs. ;)

Our top 10 end scores were nearly completely unlike how the real results came out. Ours were:

A very exciting listCollapse )

Recently I started a new game of Crusader Kings 2, or "that wacky alternative history game" as I like to think of it. This time around I started off on the Indian sub-continent as a follower of Jainism. Weirdly when my territory was annexed by a larger Hindu neighbour they offered to install me as their marshal and set me to work training their troops. At one point my religious advisor was totally positive about me going off and killing a "dragon". I do not understand...

I also have to admit I am still not very good at setting up beneficial royal marriages. All my carefully orchestrated royal cousins seem to end up turning on me. Probably because they spend all their money on conquering everyone and I am very good at making lots and lots of gold and forgetting to upgrade my infrastructure and armies. Hmm.

12:12 am
I hate it when I have to get up in the night needing to pee and open my bedroom door to find a cat camping my spawn point.

Pooka loves to sleep outside my door because she gets to be a trip hazard in 3 different directions at once and there's no chance that I can get back in to my room without her breaking in to one of her rarely seen super-speed, arthritic waddles and nipping through just before the door closes.

I still continue to be thankful for my foresight of buying a double bed. It makes sharing with cats a whole lot more comfortable.

11:25 am
This morning I spent an hour grubbing around on the floor trying to figure out why my computer wasn't working properly/ showing any images once it started windows. Turns out gravity was the culprit. Or rather it was my "new" graphics card gradually slipping out of alignment with its port because I didn't realise it needed a screw on one end to hold up its beastly weight (it's actually not that heavy, at least not compared to my massive and quite elderly Geforce GTX 260). Since I am now typing this on the same computer we can assume it's fixed... For now.

It does make me realise that I hate my computer case though. It's a pain in the arse to get the side off it and once I have I see it has crap all cable management and it lets all the dust and cat fluff in. This is bad since we have 4 cats and my computer lives on the floor. I'm going to have to do a serious clean out and probably tape dust guards all over the damn thing, but I'm so lazy and I don't wanna. :(
